Welcome
Richard Margison: The Folk Singing Opera Star is a one hour documentary film that profiles the fascinating life of one of the world’s leading operatic tenors. From early in his life it was clear that Richard was destined to be a singer. But opera was the last thing on his mind. His dream was not to become the next Pavarotti but the next Gordon Lightfoot or Leonard Cohen.
Through a combination of song and story Richard tells his amazing journey, from busking for tips and gratuities in fishing resorts on the rugged islands of Canada’s west coast as a youth to his mercurial rise to the stages of the leading opera houses in the world - with unexpected twists and surprises that eventually lead him down the road he has taken today.
Supporting cast includes his childhood friend and band mate Greg Davidson; Placido Domingo, and folk/rock legend Bruce Cockburn (Lovers in a Dangerous Time). Through it all, is the power of the unmistakable voice of Richard Margison as seen and heard in climatic, spine tingling solo of Nessun Dorma.
If you like folk, opera or just an amazing biography you'll love Richard Margison: The Folk Singing Opera Star.
At last, another great tenor.
